Message from Lorenzo in Sentani. Have now travelled back through cloud and rain in the Helicopter. Then in a cargo plane from Wamena. Realises how the logistics make Carstensz a difficult mountain to climb. Leaving for Bali tomorrow.

Now at base camp having secured use of the helicopter. "Almost unbelieveable" he says. Weather looking good for them to leave in the night. Message cuts off.

Lorenzo tried several times after this to record a message in Italian, but each time he was cut off. These satellite systems really do not like Italian!

Lorenzo's comment about "finally making contact" is because the computer that he phones into crashed on Friday and lost everything on its C: drive, including the audio recording and compression software. Much relief here that he wasn't caught up in the terrible typhoon that has killed so many.
